COGO, Object Classification, and Map Standards:

The purpose of the following assignment served as a means to introduce Autodesk’s AutoCAD Map 3D 2013 software. It gave an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge learned from lectures and labs by using COGO, object classification and map standards within AutoCAD Map 3D to make a final drawing displaying a newly added subdivision within St. Catharines, Ontario. The knowledge gained from the assignment included learning practical familiarity and functionality with AutoCAD Map 3D software as well as learning how to convert paper copies of blueprints into digital form by drawing out the dimensions stated. It also taught how to create and assign object classes within the software and how to use the COGO function to plan and draw the new subdivision. Lastly, the assignment aided in the knowledge of cleaning up a drawing in AutoCAD Map 3D and creating a map layout to present the results of the drawing.



Feature Sources / Map Output:

The purpose of the following assignment served as a means to introduce Autodesk’s AutoCAD Map 3D 2013 software using feature sources and map output techniques. It gave an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge learned from lectures and labs and the chance to gain familiarity with using rasters, connecting to features, and styling images within the program. The knowledge gained from the assignment included learning practical familiarity and functionality with AutoCAD Map 3D software as well as learning how to publish a map book after designing and manipulating a digital elevation model (DEM) in both two dimensional and three dimensional forms. It also taught how to use the proper methods of connecting to features and how to edit those features by adding various elements such as contour lines, vertical exaggeration, and hillshades. Furthermore, the assignment aided in teaching how to use simple expressions to extract certain attributes in order to assign those attributes a label and representative symbology. Lastly, the assignment supported the knowledge of creating different types of layouts and the various functions that AutoCAD Map 3D is capable of.



Source Drawing Queries / Report:

The purpose of the following deliverable served as a means to introduce and gain practical familiarity with Autodesk’s AutoCAD Map 3D 2013 source drawings, source drawing queries, and generating output query reports from those source drawing queries. It gave an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge learned in labs and lectures by creating a source drawing and source drawing queries based on a scenario given, and outputting those queries into a report for analysis. The knowledge gained from the assignment included learning practical functionality with AutoCAD Map 3D software in terms of learning how to connect source drawings, create source drawing queries, and output query reports in the form of the text file. It also taught the syntax and formation of how queries should be established in the software and what methods need to be used in order to retrieve relevant and correct results. Lastly, the assignment aided in the techniques needed on how to analyze and interpret data in the form of a query report in order to properly and effectively communicate in depth, thorough, and complete results.
